My Story
By 23, I already had two years of experience in finance. I was living "the dream": a top UK university degree, competing offers from global banks for both my placement and graduate roles in London, with salaries that I genuinely thought were offered to me by mistake.
School and university had prepared me so well to get into a career, but it hadn't prepared me for the other parts of life. I was struggling with anxiety, stress, other health issues, and a sense of detachment from what I was doing and who I was.
I thought that changing jobs would help, but getting another job after university showed me otherwise. It wasn't the job that was the issue - it was the way that my life was set up around work.
I wasn't eating nutritious meals, I wasn't moving well and frequently, and I simply wasn't present. I knew I had to fix this.
So I read every book I could find that might help me and listened to podcasts from experts in the areas of psychology and self development. Slowly, I figured out how to implement routines and habits around my busy schedule.
While I was working, I started training to be a Pilates instructor to learn how to move better. When I moved back to Dubai, I started studying for my Nutrition Coach qualification, which centred on habit formation and behaviour change. I found a branch of Psychology that I resonated with - Positive Psychology, which focusses on enhancing our human strengths - and I learnt how I can incorporate its techniques into my life.
Without realising, I was forming my Three Pillar Approach which encompasses the mind, the body, and execution.
I truly wish that I knew all this when I left school. With unparalleled academic and social pressure, there needs to be more education around how to manage this pressure and thrive in the long-term. This is where I step in - to help students perform their best.
